The Division of Anesthesiology is a specialized and educational unit of the Department of Anesthesiology, Reanimatology and Intensive Care Medicine of the University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine. The Division of Anesthesiology conducts the practical part of the residency in anesthesiology, reanimatology, and intensive care medicine, including the education for residents from other institutions.
The work is organized in regular shifts, which are carried out in 20 operating theaters, 13 of which are located in the Central Operating Unit. The staff of the Department of Anesthesiology provide daily anesthesia services for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in non-surgical specialties (cardiology, gastroenterology, radiology, dentistry).
For emergencies, 24-hour shifts are organized with three anesthesia teams on duty and one team on standby.
For preoperative preparation and postoperative recovery of patients before they return to the main wards, the Division of Anesthesiology has a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) with a separate area for regional anesthesia and other anesthesia procedures. The PACU team consists of a physician and four anesthesia nurses who participate in regional anesthesia procedures or work in the operating rooms as needed.
Anesthesia procedures are performed according to the protocols and standards of the profession at the highest professional level.
