It can be said that the history of stomatology within the framework of military medical practice began as early as 1934, when the Permanent Military Hospital of the 4th Army Region in Vlaška Street in Zagreb also had a “dental station”. In 1988, the Military Hospital moved to the newly built hospital building in Dubrava. As part of the Outpatient Clinic, a well-designed and sophisticated dental department with all the necessary accompanying facilities (various dispensaries, X-Ray, dental laboratory, seminar rooms, etc.) began with its work. At that time, it was certainly the best equipped dental department with all the necessary modern equipment. The dedication of the hospital employees at the beginning of the Croatian War of Independence preserved the complete, very valuable inventory of the hospital, which also enabled further uninterrupted work in the field of dentistry. Today’s Department of Prosthetic Dentistry of the Dubrava University Hospital was founded on May 1, 1995 with the arrival of teachers from the Department of Removable and the Department of Fixed Prosthetics of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb, and the first Head was Professor Vjekoslav Jerolimov, now an academician. The Department of Prosthetic Dentistry contributed to the creation of legal conditions for obtaining the status of a university hospital, which was achieved by the Decision of the Government Committee for the Transformation of the Hospital and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia on May 29, 1995.This enabled the further development of the hospital, which became a first-class health, scientific and educational institution – the teaching base of the Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical and Biochemical Faculties of the University of Zagreb and numerous polytechnic colleges. From its beginnings until today, the Department has developed, in parallel, in several areas, both clinical and professional, as well as educational and scientific. Founded as a teaching base of the School of Dental Medicine of the University of Zagreb, it is today inextricably linked to it in the education of students of the integrated undergraduate and graduate study of Dental Medicine, as well as postgraduate specialist and doctoral studies.
